the police deployed 500 officers only before the riot started and then aded 200 more. during the olimpic 15,000 police officers were deployed!

What can a handful of police officers do against a street full of angry aggressive violent individuals caught up in the mayhem. Had they tried to intervene they would have been attacked and there would have been an outcome much worse.

and that exactly my point. the city should deployed much more forces, ban sale of alcohol @ dt that day and generally speaking - be prepared for a massive riot - since it was clearly in the air that day

was very impressed with the police response. I was glad to see that they didn't go in cracking skulls, but had a plan and executed it very well. The comparison to the 94 riots says it all. In 2011 there were 3 times and many rioters and they were dispersed in half the time.
You also can't compare the response to the Olympics which had a 1 billion $ security budget.
