The idea is that when electrical current is applied to certain gases over a period of hundreds of thousands of years amino acids and other essential life can be synthesized if the conditions are right. Once a molecule began to reproduce itself, that stable process is replicated so many times it is meaningless to attach a number. Use billions if you need to have a quantity.
