Canada has a universal medical plan, however, we don't have enough doctors, and many MSP based clinics go for private practices. Healthcare should be there, but it needs to be supported. The Japanese probably have the best universal health plan in the world. It includes DENTAL!
i don't know how common practice it is and how many Canadian are actually looking for US based clinics in case of need. but i know this is definitely my plan B...
How exactly do you equate the United States being there having an effect on our medical system? Taxes pay our medical system. We have our medical system because of Canada, the good and the bad. Nothing to do with the USA. The world doesn't revolve around the USA geezus...
Government efficiency is a big factor in healthcare. Money more often than not gets wasted in politics, and doesn't get to the programs that really matter. I believe there is enough money to go around to pay for a good healthcare plan.
The US healthcare system is FAR MORE EXPENSIVE than its Canadian counterpart. Be a good child and look it up. If you do not like our healthcare, simply leave my beloved Canada, yes?
At least here in Canada I need not fear ever losing my home in order to pay my medical bills. I hear that happens quite often in Canada. Also, insurance firms in the USA deny much treatment, whereas to do so here is illegal.
The obvious effect the US has on the Canadian health system is that it acts as a safety valve for you...

when the wait times for certain procedures in Canada becomes unbearably long, the Canadians simply cross the border and get those services, immediately, for fee, in the US.
and to what end does that have to do with being able to afford healthcare in Canada? Don't bring your healthcare woes and problems over here...deal with your own problems. People die in US hospitals for no paper work. Here in Canada we save first ask questions later. That's a country I can be proud of.
US emergency rooms are required by law to treat anyone, insurance or not. No one dies because of of lack of paperwork. Stop reading Pravda and join us in the real world. If things are so great in Canada, why are Canadians coming to the US for healthcare?
What does that have to do with our system? No monies are leaving the country, therefore our system is intact. There are those who do cross the border, but they are NOT covered by Canada's medicare. They have to pay out of their own pocket. I say all the power to them, as long as it is their own money. I have had no problems with wait times. I bet my doctor visits are far faster than your own.
If I want my tax money to go to me getting health are instead of paying for it out of pocket....

Then thats what it should go to! Of course, this would have to be the opinion of at least 51% of the rest of America. But if its agreed by the majority of people then hell, the people should get what they want.
Just because someone is rich should never mean he/she has more rights to healthcare than the average citizen. The rich can wait in line like everyone else. They can take their money and stuff it up their asses. The only thing that matters is a person's health. Shame on the bloody Americans for profiting off the sick and dying. Shows one what type of people are the Americans. Money means everything to them.
